What happens in an Initial consultation?
The dietitian will first send out an electronic link to complete prior to the consultation to get some information about your medical and dietary background. Then in the consultation which is roughly 1 hour, we will do your body composition( Weight, height, body fat %, water %, muscle mass, visceral fat, metabolic age, etc ), discuss any blood tests or send for blood tests if needed, discuss any clinical matters related to your diagnosis or condition should there be one together with medications and supplementations. And then together with it all, your dietary goals and what is to be changed and altered to reach those goals.
If a meal plan is opted for, the dietitian will take notes to make sure that your likes and dislikes are taken into account together with your medical background. Then the plan will be sent within approximately 48-72 hours, pending workload.
A follow up session
A follow up session is not compulsory but is quite good for accountability. All your stats will be done in this session too. Some patients like coming 2 weekly for extra accountability, others maybe 3 weekly and others once a month. It is good to set your appointment before you leave the dietitian to know what you are working towards. Follow ups are shorter sessions to check in on how you are doing. They are usually 20-30min.
Meal plan
The initial meal plan will be a 7 day meal plan with a shopping list. A wide variety of foods to get you into a routine based on your specific goals, whether it be healthy eating, weight loss, or even weight gain. Repetition creates a habit, so following a 7 day plan initially helps patients get into a nice routine. A meal plan is also not compulsory. Dietary guidelines can be given in the consultation itself which is not an extra charge.
8 and 12 week weight loss programmes
These programmes were designed to help patients commit to 2 weekly weigh-in’s and help them stay accountable during an 8 or 12 week period and get their weight loss journey started.
There is the opportunity to rejoin again.
It includes: the initial consultation; a meal plan, and either 4 or 6 follow up sessions that are 2 weeks apart. For the couples programme they need to attend the sessions together.
There is a payment plan option; or can be claimed from medical aid too.
